| January 14. 2003 Hi Martin I can not get your web site to function on my imac for some reason. I get the web page but I can't get into the pictures or any thing else. I pulled it up on a pc that I have access to out at the fire Dept where I am on the board of directors. Every thing came up good. I liked the section on the Ruth fire dept. When I was growing up we had the one 1929 American La France pumper which I assume that was the one in the picture. There was one paid member of the dept and that was the Chief who was Pete Craft. He had other duties than fighting fires. Being chief was just a side line since there few fires. The only fire I ever remember was a house on Grants hill which burned to the ground. The whole town would be alerted to a fire by a siren mounted on the top of the head frame of the Star Pointer Mine Shaft. The only use it ever got was when it was turned on to announce the 9:00 pm curfew when all the young kids should be at home. Everyone in town was supposed to be fire fighters. We had hydrants and hoses stationed all over town with all the necessary wrenches need to turn on the hydrants and hook up the hoses. The only use they got was flooding the skating rink in the new townsite. Those were the good times. John Michaelsen |
